Gas prices rise before what's left of Hurricane blows over my town

Holy crap gas went up 37% in one day!

Yes that's right regular self-serve gasoline went from 99 cents/litre to $1.35/litre in one day and some reports are it's already at $1.50 since the last increase with more to come!

The good news is diesel only went up a bit, it went from about 98 cents to $1.03, not great but about 30 cents cheaper than the cheapest gas is fine with me.

OK I was just stalling before but I may have to make my own biodiesel. It may be time to check out some grease buckets at fast food garbage bins. The high road would be vegetable oil from a store, preferably a bulk warehouse type spot. I'm not sure how much lye and methanol I'll need to convert 1 litre of oil into biodiesel. I know it will be about 50/50 oil and glycerine, I'll lose a lot of it that way.

What I don't get is Canada has loads of oil in storage, we export oil since we make so much we can't use it all and we don't get oil from the US! Why would a Hurricane in Louisiana affect us here? It's still windy and the prices are up already! The obvious answer is it doesn't, it's opportunity to make money by oil companies. I'm beginning to be paranoid like a lot of people are when talking about oil companies, but really it just seems wrong that we are paying more if you look at the facts.
